In 2004, the Sheriff’s Department partnered with Parkview Noble Hospital to provide EMS Dispatching for Noble County which is managed by Parkview Noble Hospital EMS.
Noble County EMS Dispatch
Any emergency call is immediately transferred to the EMS dispatch console located in the Communications Center and that dispatcher is often able to provide “Zero” response time help to the caller. The EMS dispatchers use nationally recognized Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatch (AEMD) standards by providing:
- Pre-arrival instructions to the callers.
- Dispatch life support to the patient’s location.
- Critical run information is relayed to the emergency responders.
- Post-dispatch instructions to the caller.
There are five (5) full-time EMS dispatchers with an additional seven other medics who are qualified to dispatch, providing services 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Each dispatcher is required to maintain the appropriate EMS certification requirements along with AMED certifications.
In addition to EMS dispatchers overseeing Noble County’s four medic units and 50 employees, Lagrange county EMS dispatch operations were moved to the EMS dispatch center in Noble County in 2008. This added all of Lagrange County EMS operations which included four medic units and 38 employees. Lagrange County 911 operations are the same as Noble County in that a primary 911 operator in Lagrange County takes the initial 911 call and forwards all EMS requests to Noble County for screening, dispatch and instructions. This involved considerable planning, equipment, and cooperation on the part of both counties as well as Parkview Health Systems. The result is a more effective and efficient utilization of EMS resources, regardless of the location (county) of the run.
In 2008, Parkview added a critical care / neo-natal transport unit with eight full-time employees in Ft. Wayne / Allen County. This unit provides 24-hour transportation of critical and non-critical patients in Fort Wayne / Allen County as well as neo-natal transport throughout Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio. All requests for, and dispatching of this unity are done through EMS dispatch in Noble County.
In 2009, the Noble County EMS dispatchers were responsible for the dispatching and coordination of 8,091 ambulance runs.
