How Do I Obtain a Handgun Permit?

Online Application

After completing the online application you MUST visit your local law enforcement agency to pay their local fee. The Noble County Sheriff’s Department is available to assist with handgun permits Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. 

The Noble County Sheriff’s Department will no longer be doing fingerprinting at our location for firearms.  Applicants will need to make an appointment at a L1 zone (explained in the online application) after filling out the application online.

What Are The Fees For Handgun Permits?

  • Four Year Hunting & Target: Local fees are $10.00 (*$5.00). State fees are $5.00.
  • Four Year Personal Protection Fees: Local fees are $10.00 (*$5.00). State fees are $30.00.
  • Lifetime Hunting & Target Fees (No Current License): Local fees are $50.00 (*$30.00). State fees are $25.00.
  • Lifetime Hunting & Target Fees (Current Valid License): Local fees are $40.00 (*$30.00). State fees are $20.00.
  • Lifetime Personal Protection Fees (No Current License): Local fees are $50.00 (*$30.00). State fees are $75.00.
  • Lifetime Personal Protection (Current Valid License): Local fees are $40.00 (*$30.00). State fees are $60.00.

Local fees marked by an asterisk (*) are the portion that is refundable if a license is not issued.

Local Fees must be paid by CASH or MONEY ORDER payable to: Noble County Sheriff’s Department.

State Fees must be paid by MONEY ORDER payable to: Indiana State Police Firearms Section

Important Warning

An Indiana handgun license is not recognized by most other states and may not allow you to legally carry a firearm outside of the State of Indiana. Always check with authorities before attempting to transport a weapon across state lines.
